What changed: LIBF is now Walbrook Institute London

On 2 April 2025, The London Institute of Banking & Finance announced that it had become Walbrook Institute London. The institution now operates under the Walbrook name, and its social media profiles and website use the new name.

Why the name changed

The new name reflects a broader educational offer. The institution has grown beyond banking and finance into business, technology and digital innovation, while keeping its roots in financial services. The name draws on the River Walbrook, which once flowed through the City of London’s financial district. It links the institution to its origins in the Square Mile.

Those origins go back a long way. The institution was founded in 1879 as the Institute of Bankers, and it has served banking and finance professionals ever since.

What stays the same

For learners and employers, the important things have not changed:

  • LIBF is still the brand for professional qualifications. Professional banking and finance qualifications continue under the name “LIBF, Part of Walbrook”.
  • Your certificate remains valid. Qualifications, transcripts and academic records you have already earned stay valid, and you do not need to take any action.
  • Verification continues. Employers and institutions can still verify your qualification.
  • The learning model is unchanged. Study stays flexible and learner-centred, with online, self-paced options.
